Science

For the first half of the spring session, participants will sit in small groups and listen/view an instructor-led presentation to learn about the basic concepts of Nutrition including but not limited to: understanding and using “My Plate”, reading nutrition labels and understanding fats (healthy vs. unhealthy) . Participants will perform hands-on experiments and activities to further explore these topics.

 For the second half of the spring session, participants will sit in small groups and listen/view instructor-led presentations to learn about the basic concepts of geology including but not limited to: Rocks and minerals, the rock cycle, plate tectonics, natural hazards (volcanoes, earthquakes etc), and structural geology. Participants will observe rocks, perform experiments and complete fun activities to enhance learned skills. 


Math

Participants will sit in small groups and learn about coin recognition through instructor led presentations and activities. They will play recognition games and complete worksheets independently to check for understanding. 

 For the second half of the spring semester, participants will develop place value skills and learn to read large numbers by listening to/viewing instructor led presentations and completing activities, games and worksheets to build upon this skill. 


Specials

 During this time, participants will sit as a full group for various activities. Some activities include arts and crafts, cooking, gardening, music, and yoga/zumba.



Social Studies

Participants will sit in small groups to listen/view an instructor lead presentation about early American development and expansion including but not limited to manifest destiny, territorial acquisitions, westward migration and conflicts. Participants will complete activities and simulations to help further understand these concepts.
